多くの人がご存知のように、3月11日に大地震、津波が日本を襲い、そして、甚大な被害を与えました。それ以来、食料とか飲料水等の日用品を求める人々の長い列がスパーマーケットに出来ています。スパーマーケットの開店時間を過ぎると瞬く間に、棚は空っぽになっていまします。必須の食料品、例えばパン、牛乳、卵、飲料水等を買いたいと思っても、買うことが出来ません。食料品の不足に加えて、購入できるガソリンが殆どありません（すべてのガス・ステーションは売れ切れになっています）。計画停電が予定されており、その停電の影響は、家庭や会社のみならず、公共の交通機関（JR,私鉄、地下鉄）にも及んでいます。停電の間、我々の住む地域の家庭では、この冬の寒い季節の中、殆ど毎日、数時間暖房なしの状態になっています。
フェリアン(妻)と私は、これらの変化を徐々に受け入れています。我々に十分な物が与えられていることを神に感謝しています。これら不都合な出来事の最中においても、神は事態を掌握しており、そして、神は信義厚き方です。最近、経験した「神からの提供」は、神の心遣い、神の愛を気付かせてくれました。
3月19日の朝、フェリアンは友人からの電話を受けました。その友人は、教会の近くて中華レストランを営んでいました。彼女は、出来るだけ早く中国に戻る（避難する）こと、そして、彼女の家族全員を連れて帰るとのことでした。翌日の午前5時に出発する予定で、もう日本には戻る予定がないとのことでした。それは、本当に慌しく決めたことだそうです。その結果、彼女は多くの物を置いていくこととなりました。電話してきたその朝、彼女は、我々に残していく多くの物があることをフェリアンに伝えました。その時、フェリアンは、その申出を断りました。誰か別の方にあげてくださいとも伝えました。それから、我々は、彼女が午後8時に再度電話してくるまで、そのことは忘れていました。午後の電話の時、彼女は、彼女のレストランに来て欲しいと我々に懇願しました。そこで、「さよなら」と言うつもりで彼女のレストランに行きました。
我々の車にはガソリンがなかったので、私は徒歩で、フェリアンは自転車でレストランに行きました。我々がレストランに着いた時、その中国人の女性は、大袈裟なくらいな感じで我々を招き入れました。「あなたが欲しいものすべて持っていっていいのよ」と彼女は言いました。そこには大きな袋に入った米、何種類もの料理用ワイン、数え切れないくらいの卵、たくさんの油の缶、生鮮野菜等々がありました。彼女は、それらすべてを我々に贈りたかったのです。
我々は車でなかったので、10キロの米、1缶の油、140個の卵、料理用ワインとお酢数本、徳用サイズの洗剤、12キロの砂糖、生鮮野菜等々を持ち帰ることにしました。我々がレストランを去る時、未だ、たくさんの食料が残っていました。我々は、持ち帰ることにした品物を運ぶために何回も教会との間を往復しました。教会員に分け与えることの出来るたくさんの食料雑貨類があること、そのことを教会員に言えることに我々は、興奮を覚えました。
私は忙しかった夜の興奮冷めやらない中、自宅に戻る時に、私は神に訊ねました。「何故、我々をそのように祝福してくれるのですか？」そして、私が受けた答は、「ピーター、時は異なるが、私の人々に私の心遣いは必ず示される。そのしるしをあなたに示したのだ。」
翌朝、我々が教会に着いた時、教会員はテーブルの上に多くの食料が乗っていることを見ました。昨晩から受けた「神からの提供」についての証を教会員にしました。教会員は、我々の話にビックリしました。説教の後、教会員が欲する物をそれぞれ持ち帰りました。それでもたくさんの品物が残りました。更に、翌週も教会員で分けることが十分出来る量でした。
我々すべては、神からの提供、神の心遣いに大いに勇気付けられました。神は我々が必要とする時を覚えておられる。我々に対して、そして、教会の家族に対して信義の厚い神であることを、フェリアンと私は再確認いたしました。
栄光は神にあれ！
最新情報：状況は刻々変化しています。そして、事態は普通の状況に戻りつつあります。食料、水、ガソリンは、今、あります。時々の停電はありますが、平穏です。放射能の問題に対して、日本政府は放射能を制御する為の最善の努力を払っています。

God's provision in the midst of crisis in Japan
As many of you already know, on March 11, Japan was hit by a massive earthquake and tsunami that crippled the nation. Since then, there continues to be long lines at the supermarket for daily necessities like food and water. The shelves in the supermarkets are quickly emptied soon after their opening hour. Even if we wanted to purchase these items, there is just no food essentials -- no bread, milk, eggs, bottled water, etc. -- left in the stores to buy. In addition to food scarcity, there is also very little petrol available (every petrol station is sold out of their supply). Electricity blackouts are scheduled at specific times everyday affecting not only homes and businesses but also public transportation (a lot of the Japanese trains run on electricity). Without electricity, homes in our area have no heat for a few hours almost everyday during this cold winter season.
Huey Lian and I are slowly adapting to these changes. We are very thankful to God for what we have. In the midst of all these recent events, we know that God is in control and God is always faithful. Our recent experience of His provision just reminds us of His care and love towards us.
Last Saturday morning 19th March, Huey Lian received a call from a friend who ran a Chinese restaurant near our church. This lady was immediately returning/evacuating to China and she was taking her whole family with her. She was going to leave the next day at 5am for China and she had no plans of returning to Japan. It was a sudden last-minute decision for them. As a result, she was going to leave many things behind. When she called in the morning, she told Huey Lian that she had many things to give us. At that time, Huey Lian declined her offer and advised her to give her items to someone else. We didn’t think anything more of it until she called again at 8pm in the evening. This time, she was very insistent that we came to meet her at her restaurant. We ended up going mainly because Huey Lian wanted to say goodbye to them.
As our car was out of petrol, I walked to the restaurant while Huey Lian went on her bicycle. When we arrived at the restaurant, this Chinese lady made wide sweeping gestures with both hands. She said that we could take anything from her shop that we wanted. There were large sacks of rice, bottles of different kinds of cooking wine, dozens and dozens of eggs, enormous tin cans of oil, fresh vegetables, and the list goes on. She wanted to give it all to us.
As we did not have a car, we took only 10 kilos of rice, a tin of cooking oil, a box with 140 eggs, a few bottles of cooking wine and Chinese black vinegar, 2 big boxes of cleaning detergent, 12 kilos of sugar, some fresh vegetables and..... There were still a lot of food items left at the restaurant when we left. For just the items we took, we had to make a few trips to transport everything to our church. We were so excited to tell our church members we had grocery items to share with them!
As I was walking home from this exciting and yet tiring evening, I asked God, “Why do you bless us so much?” The answer I received was, “Peter, this is a sign to you that I will take care of my people in the difficult times to come.”
When we had church the next day, our members saw the food that was stacked on the table. We shared with them about God’s provision from the night before. They were amazed by our story! After the service, everyone at church took what they needed. We still have plenty more to share amongst ourselves for another week to come!
We were all so encouraged that He provides and He cares. God remembered us in our times of need. Huey Lian and I are reminded once again of His faithfulness towards us and our church family.

Latest update: The present situation is changing. Things are getting back to normal. Food, water and petrol are available now. With the occasional blackouts, things are relatively calm. On the radiation problem, the Japanese government is trying their best to control the radiation.
日本が大変な状況にある中、母子家庭の我が家に転機が訪れました。元旦那さんが婚約指輪を贈ってくれたのです！離婚した時は教会から出されて、悲しい思いを致しましたが、神様は彼と私を作り変えて下さいました。日本の復興と共に、我が家も家庭の築き直しです。また、宮城の友人一家、いわき市の友人一家を地震と津波から守って下さった事に感謝致します。教会の皆様、ピーター先生、フェリアン夫人、たゆまぬ祈りを有難う御座います。
